17/04/2008 Some progress (ahead of schedule) 5 wintering sites are currently being used by Bitterns in Herts. Amwell Nature Reserve, Wilstone Reservoir, Marsworth Reservoir, North Met Pit - Turnford & Stockers LAke (River Colne). Number of sites could increase if Bitterns return to places like Rye Meads.

5 Wintering Bitterns were recorded in Herts 2007/08, 2 at Amwell, 2 at Tring and 1 at Turnford.

Booming activity has been recorded from Tring in 2003 & 2008.
