Overview report

10/12/2008 A funding bid is being made to continue the work carried out by Whixall Barn Owl Project. The project is asking for £1000 from UK Waterways to enable the installation of up to 30 barn owl boxes near to suitable habitat adjacent to canals or navigable watercourses in Shropshire.
The Shropshire Barn Owl Group shall lead on the project over the next 12 months, offering barn owl boxes to landowners who either have suitable longterm habitat or who are willing to set aside some land to create the right conditions for barn owls to thrive. This project follows on from the success of Parish Environmental Action, a project coordinated in the north of the county by Shropshire County Councils Conservation and Ranger Team. Within this project Whixall Parish was chosen to engage with landowners and install 30 barn owl boxes as a direct response from a good breeding season in the parish.
It is hoped that with funding from UK Waterways we will maintain the momentum of the steady return of Shropshires barn owls.
Any landowners who are near to a canal or a navigable river wanting further information are invited to get in touch with the Shropshire Barn Owl Group or Shropshire County Councils Conservation & Ranger Team.
