HAP Old Orchards

Plan status: Implementation underway

Vision statement

Seek to halt the loss of existing traditional orchards and maintain those remaining in, or
restore them to, favourable condition.
Encourage the creation and recording of new standard orchards, and also the planting of
community orchards, with traditional varieties of fruit trees.
Establish the current extent and condition of traditional orchards and associated species
and establish a system of monitoring to measure changes.
Promote the knowledge and awareness of the biological and cultural value of local fruit
varieties, traditional orchards and the management practices and skills associated with them.
Stimulate demand for traditional orchard products by instigating a marketing strategy for
these and developing a network of contacts, to enhance their long term viability.
