HAP Estuaries, Saltmarsh and Mudflats To maintain and enhance the quality of the existing saltmarsh in terms of community and species diversity and, where necessary, restore the nature conservation interest through appropriate management.
To maintain at least the present extent and regional distribution of the Severn Estuary’s mudflats.
To create 50ha of saltmarsh using the few currently remaining opportunities for managed realignment by 2010.
To help create and restore enough inter-tidal area in the Severn Estuary over the next 50 years to offset predicted losses to sea level rise in the same period.
To encourage the use of managed realignment as a viable and attractive option for coastal defence, to permit the creation of further areas of saltmarsh and mudflat.
To restore estuarine water quality to ensure that existing mudflats fulfil their important ecological and conservation role.
To maintain and expand the populations of internationally and nationally important species in the estuary.
To increase awareness, understanding and appreciation of the estuary’s biodiversity.

Encourage the creation and recording of new standard orchards, and also the planting of
community orchards, with traditional varieties of fruit trees.
Establish the current extent and condition of traditional orchards and associated species
and establish a system of monitoring to measure changes.
Promote the knowledge and awareness of the biological and cultural value of local fruit
varieties, traditional orchards and the management practices and skills associated with them.
Stimulate demand for traditional orchard products by instigating a marketing strategy for
these and developing a network of contacts, to enhance their long term viability.

To enhance river bank and floodplain habitats and features.
To raise awareness, understanding and education about the functions and value of the county's rivers and streams.
HAP Standing Open Waters Acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the extent, distribution and condition of standing open waters in the county, and characterise using the tier approach.
To ensure that all water bodies of high nature conservation interest are managed appropriately to maintain and enhance their conservation interest.
To restore the favourable conservation status of standing open water bodies where they have been degraded.
To encourage, where appropriate, the creation of aquatic and wetland communities, including new ponds on land of low conservation importance.
To raise awareness, understanding and education in respect of the biodiversity value of the standing open waters.
HAP Unimproved Limestone Grassland Maintain and protect the current resource of unimproved limestone grassland in Gloucestershire.
