Action
Together, the actions represent the work programme for delivering an action plan. Each can be viewed as a discrete project, with a start and end date and with nominated organisation(s) for carrying them out. Actions are highly variable, for example they may relate to publicity, research, survey, management or policy.
BAP
Biodiversity Action Plan
BARS
The Biodiversity Action and Reporting System
BARS code
A code that uniquely defines an action within the BARS system
HAP
National Habitat Action Plan (45 published to date).
LBAP
Local Biodiversity Action Plan (approximately 150 of these have been published). These plans comprise a series of constituent plans for habitats and species, or groups of habitats and species.
LBAP co-ordinator
Responsible for overseeing implementation of a LBAP
LBAP partnership
A partnership of organisations and interested individuals who agree the priorities and constituent plans of the LBAP. These will often include local wildlife trusts, national agencies, local government authorities, natural history societies and expert individuals. LBAP partnership members are often also responsible for plan implementation, though other organisations may also be involved. Note that the same organisations (though often different individual representatives) are often members of national steering groups and LBAP partnerships.
Lead Partner
Responsible for overseeing the implementation of a HAP or SAP
SAP
National Species Action Plan (391 published to date)
Steering group
A group of organisations that agree the priorities for implementation of a national plan (HAP or SAP). These members are also heavily involved in implementation action, but other organisations may also play a part. Note that the same organisations (though often different individual representatives) are often members of national steering groups and LBAP partnerships.
Target
The objectives of action plans. Most action plans will have more than one target. Ideally, targets represent wildlife gain, are quantified and are date-limited. |
